1- What are the different types of incisions used for breast implant placement?
Here are four categories of incision for breast implant placement:
- Under the breast in the breast fold.
- Around the nipple and areola.
- In the axilla (armpit).
Most common incisions for breast implants placement are through an incision in the lower breast fold or through the nipple and aerola.
The advantage of these incisions are easy approach for implant placement and more accurate shape. These incisions are also hidden underneath the standard bikini lines or undergarments
Through the axillary (armpit) incision it is more difficult to shape the breast tissue as the implant tends to sit higher on the chest and takes longer time to descend downwards to lower position in the breast on the chest wall.

Breast implants can be placed either under the pectoralis muscle (sub muscular), or between the breast tissue and chest muscle (sub glandular).
In general, sub muscular(under the muscle) breast implant has a much more natural shape, and decrease the rate of infection and complications associated with them. Sub muscular breast Implant has much more support and less tendency to drop or become droop with time. There is also lower incidence of capsular contracture which means breast implants tend to stay softer for longer time under the muscle than they do over the muscle.

For a given size of breast implant, there is a slightly different shape as we go up in profile from a moderate profile implant to high profile implant to extra high profile breast implants.
The higher profile breast implants tends to give more projection to the breast on the chest wall.

Breast Augmentations with implants alone cannot correct the severely ptotic and hanging breast. 12- What is the difference between smooth and textured breast implants?
The outer surface of a breast implant can either be smooth or slightly rough (textured). This is not something that you feel externally but is only seen internally by the surgeon.

The textured, slightly rough surface is applied to the breast implant for two reasons:

14- What are “gummy bear” breast implants?
“Gummy bear implants” is a term used to describe silicone gel implants which are firmer and hold their shape more closely because they contain some form of more cohesive silicone gel. This means that if the silicone implant is cut in halfon a table it will still hold most of its original shape without the silicone material inside simply flowing out. The material inside has the consistency more of a “gummy snake” than, of a maple syrup.
